Guilderland

To the Editor:

As the coming election for Guilderland town supervisor approaches, I feel compelled to express my support for Supervisor Kenneth Runion. I have operated a number of businesses for the last 40 years in the town of Guilderland and also lived in the town a majority of that time.

The Guilderland Senior Services is offering the following activities the week of Oct. 28. Call the senior office at 356-1980, ext. 1048 for any questions or information.

Wow! What a ride!  If you go to see the movie Gravity I hope you enjoy it as much as my husband, Jim, and I did. The special effects team certainly outdid themselves with creative ways to fool the eye and mind into thinking that the scenes were in fact real.

The worship schedule at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Ave., in Altamont on Sunday, Oct. 27, is as follows:

— 8:30 a.m., informal worship with modern and ethnic hymns and a discussion of the sermon format;

— 11 a.m., traditional service, with traditional pipe organ;

GUILDERLAND — Republican Bryan Best will challenge Lynne Buchanan for the receiver of taxes role.
Best is a Guilderland native, and graduated from Guilderland High School and the state’s University at Albany. He is currently a trustee of the Guilderland Public Library.

Democrat Lynne Buchanan, who worked as the deputy receiver of taxes under Jean Cataldo for a number of years, but recently transferred into the town comptroller’s office, is running to be the receiver of taxes.

Jean Cataldo has worked as the receiver of taxes for 12 years. She originally ran a close but unsuccessful race for town clerk in 1999, against the Republican incumbent.

GUILDERLAND — Jason Wright, a Republican who currently works for the Albany County Board of Elections, and formerly worked for the Schenectady Boys and Girls Club, will challenge Democrat Jean Cataldo, the current receiver of taxes, for the position of town clerk.

Both posts carry four-year terms for the full-time jobs. Both will pay $55,518 annually according to the 2014 budget proposal.

Richard Sherwood, a Democrat, is making a run for town judge, after having served as the town attorney for 14 years and the prosecutor in town court for six years.
He has been an attorney since 1986, and in the past, clerked for a United States Supreme Court judge.
