Guilderland

Now that the baseball season is about to start, it's almost a given that Guilderland will be in the mix at the end.

ALTAMONT —The Southern Poverty Law Center, an internationally known organization that tracks the activities of hate groups in the United States, has put Altamont on the map — the Hate Map.

Published last month in the center’s Spring 2015 “Intelligence Report,” and posted online at its website, www.splcenter.org, the Hate Map for 2014 lists Altamont as the only location in New York State to have an active chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.

GUILDERLAND — A counterfeit case has been resolved this week by the district attorney’s Financial Crimes Unit.

ALTAMONT — Esther M. (née Hubbard) Goodfellow, a teacher and active community member, died on Thursday, March 26, after a brief illness. She was 92.

Goodfellow taught at the Guilderland Central School District for more than 30 years before she retired in 1982.

GUILDERLAND — Tomasina “Tommy” (née Fallone) Kilmade, a family-celebrated cook, who also cooked for Guilderland schoolchildren, died on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center. She was 92.

Mrs. Kilmade was born in Mount Vernon, and lived most of her life in the Capital District.

Guilderland students spoke to the school board about the wonders of using applications and laptops by Google, tools that are more accessible out of class and which increase the exchanges between peers and teachers.

ALTAMONT — Merritt Glennon, a beloved husband and father who loved history and community involvement, died on Friday, March 27, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany due to complications from surgery. He was 69.

With five labradoodles coming to Guilderland as service dogs that help students in a popular program in the district, a gala this month raised funds for their training.

GUILDERLAND — The town of Guilderland will begin accepting registrations for its 2015 spring and summer youth programs as of April 1.

While parents and speech therapists told the school board about the feared consequences of cutting a part-time post, the superintendent says student needs wil still be met.
