Westmere Fire Department

Last weekend, the Westmere Fire department along with the other Town of Guilderland fire departments opened their doors in hopes of recruiting some new members to join since the number of volunteers are dropping across the nation.

On Sunday, hundreds flocked to the Westmere firehouse for the annual St. Baldrick’s event where kids and adults shave their heads to raise money for the Melodies Center at Albany Medical Center, which treats children with cancer. The event raised about $70,000.

On Sunday, April 2, the Easter Bunny hopped on over to the Westmere Fire Department to visit the young kids as they had a pancake breakfast in Guilderland.

Last Sunday morning, Sept 11, Westmere Fire Department as well as McKownville and Altamont Fire Departments set off their sirens at 8:46 a.m. to signify when the first plane struck the World Trade Center in New York City. Knox also held a ceremony.

The Guilderland Police Benevolent Association, Albany County Sheriff's Office, and the Westmere Fire Department are organizing a breakfast to benefit the local law enforcement officers who lost their home in a recent fire.

According to the Albany County assessment rolls, the house, which stands on 1.09 acres, had a full market value of $190,795.
