Mary Clark put forth a bill — requiring schools to inform parents of special-education services — after her grandson committed suicide in 2010. The superintendent of his school believes it is unnecessary.
Monday evening, the Voorheesville Board of Education heard from students objecting to a cut elective and parents concerned over large class size. The board also announced retirements and tenures.
Voorheesville recently filled their vacant assistant superintendent for business position, as school business administrators are becoming harder to find.
Following the January vandalism in Voorheesville, the middle and high schools have been without a sign. Last week, a new sign with a slightly different design appeared out front of the school building.
Voorheesville resident Terry Fox, a Vietnam veteran, was recognized with the Rev. Francis A. Kelley Hometown Hero Award this week. "I just tried to do what I was trained to do as well as I could," said Fox.
The Voorheesville School Board has two incumbents running for their second terms on May 20. District residents will also vote on the incumbents, as well as the district budget and library budget.
