Voorheesville Girls Soccer

Last Thursday, Sept. 5, the Voorheesville girls’ soccer team, the reigning Section 2, Class B champions, started their title defense against Albany Academy at home. The Blackbirds soared away in the second half to win, 6 to 1.

Last Wednesday, Nov. 8, Voorheesville’s Lily Farrell, their new all-time leading goal scorer, 118, surrounded by her parents and teammates signed on the dotted line for her national letter of intent to play division one soccer at Siena College.

On Friday, Nov. 3, the Voorheesville Blackbirds traveled to Plattsburgh High School to take on Section 7’s Saranac for the right to play in the NYSPHSAA state semifinals in the regional championship. The Birds couldn’t get past the Spartans’ defense and fell 3-0.

On Friday, Oct. 27, the top-seeded Voorheesville Blackbirds girls’ soccer took on the three seed Mechanicville in the Section 2, Class B sectional championship at Stillwater High School. The Birds scored early and then had to hold on when Mechanicville had a late push to tie.

On Friday, Oct. 20, the Voorheesville girls’ soccer team, the top seed in the Section 2, Class B sectionals, took on Coxsackie-Athens, the ninth seed, at home. The Birds had an easy time and won 8-0.

On Tuesday, Sept. 12, the Voorheesville Blackbirds girls’ soccer traveled to Mohonasen to take on the Warriors in a Colonial Council matchup. The Blackbirds had a quick start in the first half but extended their lead in the second and won, 5 to 2.

Last Wednesday, Nov. 2, the Voorheesville girls' soccer team, champions in Class CC, took on Waterford-Halfmoon to determine the champions in Class C. The tough and stingy Fordian defense didn’t allow the Blackbirds to get anything going. Birds lost, 7 to 1.

On Friday, Oct. 21, the Voorheesville girls’ soccer team opened up a Section 2, Class CC sectional quarterfinal matchup as the top-seed, taking on eighth-seeded Maple Hill Wildcats. It was close to the end but the Birds won 4 to 1.

Last Thursday, Oct. 6, the Voorheesville Blackbirds traveled to Cohoes for an important Colonial Council matchup. The Birds fell behind after the first half and attempted a rally but it fell short losing, 2 to 1.

Last Wednesday, Aug. 31, the Voorheesville Blackbirds girls’ soccer team kicked off their 2022 season at home against the Cobleskill-Richmondville Bulldogs. The Birds started on the right foot from the opening whistle to final to win 7 to 0.
