Years ago, John Boyd Thacher State Park had been rumored of closing. A new visitors’ center is equipped with exhibits and activities for children in a modern building at the edge of the Helderberg escarpment.

A center to educate visitors about the natural wonders of the Helderbergs is a grand idea and a worthwhile draw but we must avoid the irony and tragedy of an unsafe building for want of secure underpinnings.
