“He gave his life in the line of duty” says the new gravestone for Harold C. Mattice, a corporal with the New York State Police, buried in Berne’s Woodlawn Cemetery.

The 24-year-old was arrested in April, when state police believed he had robbed homes in Greene, Albany, and Schoharie counties.

State Police stopped pursuing the motorcycle after it reached speeds over 100 miles per hour on Route 7. The motorcyclist went through Knox, onto Route 30 in Schoharie County, and ended in Duanesburg with internal injuries.
