The state’s Department of Environmental Conservation is encouraging New Yorkers to participate in a survey for wild turkeys throughout the month of August.

Inspiring future scientists, Clayton A. Bouton High School students in Ted Simon’s Advanced Placement physics class held a festival on June 7 to launch their weather balloon and get kids excited about science and technology. A balloon with a payload is to reach 100,000 feet as video cameras film the journey and the curvature of the Earth.

 “Our cat, he sometimes jumps on the table and sometimes ruins the puzzle,” Quinn Toomey said of the family pet, Hobo, during his family’s Christmas puzzle-making tradition.

For several years, local residents, private supporters, and school officials have been interested in siting an observatory for community and student education. With Berne's purchase of hilltop land for recreation, the idea is again being considered.

With scientists showing the public the emerging applications of their fields, the seventh annual celebration of NANOvember is hosted by the Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. It started with an open house on Nov. 1 and will feature a Family Day on Nov. 22.
