The town responded to a petition filed in Albany County Supreme Court last month by the owner of Hitmans Towing on Route 146 to appeal the conduct of the town's attorney in a zoning case.

KNOX — The owner of Hitmans Towing pleaded guilty to operating a business in a residential area and paid a $300 fine on Jan. 21, ending a legal challenge to the town five days before a trial was scheduled to start.

The first annual joint Berne-Knox Winterfest will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Knox Town Park, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (postponed from earlier dates). A new event will be added — the Cardboard Sled race.

KNOX — Dwayne Rockenstyre was sentenced to pay $845 after he was found guilty of a lesser driving-while-ability-impaired charge in a jury trial in June, with Judge James Corigliano presiding.

A second special election asking voters to allow the sale of a fire truck was passed on Tuesday night, with 136 ballots cast. The first referendum was defeated in August, 15 to 15. A town wide letter might have been the key.
