Michael Vincent talks turkey for our Thanksgiving podcast. Here, he sounds a turkey call he made himself. He shares memories of hunting all the way back to his boyhood on his grandparents’ farm on Pleasant Valley Road in Knox. There, he hunted on the land for food which they ate.

Christmas was a religious holiday for the Shakers from the start, said Lorraine Weiss, the education coordinator for the Shaker Heritage Society in Albany, but it was not originally a decorated holiday. “Over time, the Shakers took on more of the world’s cultural traditions, so they probably celebrated Christmas, giving gifts,” she said.

Employees at Atlas Copco held a competition who could bring in the most non-perishable foods in efforts to donate to St. Matthews Church in Voorheesville.
