Albany County is among 43 New York counties designated by the United States Department of Agriculture as primary natural disaster areas.

Producers who suffered losses due to recent disasters may be eligible for USDA Farm Service Agency emergency loans.

ALBANY COUNTY — David and Kelly Lendrum are the only Albany County farmers to have received funds in the latest round of grants from the state’s New Farmers Grant Fund, which assists new and early-stage farmers.

BERNE — The Berne-Knox-Westerlo Secondary School is excited to announce the formation of a Future Farmers of America chapter. The FFA is an organization that provides agricultural, educational, and leadership opportunities for students and young adults across the country.

Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program benefits are now available for eligible families and seniors across the state. The program provides checks to be redeemed at participating farmers’ markets and farm stands through the end of November for the purchase of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables.

A new project through the Cornell Cooperative Extension will analyze varying prices of farmers’ market products throughout eastern New York State. 

On Tuesday, April 12, the Old Men of the Mountain met at the County Café on Main Street in Schoharie.

Nearly $2 million in Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program checks will be distributed across the state to expand the United States Department of Agriculture’s $1.5 million program and reach more seniors.
