Gail Mirabella will be performing with her dogs at the Altamont Fair this week. Traveling across the country with 19 canine companions, she says that any dog can be taught a new trick.

A Dog Day Celebration, held in the Knox town park on Saturday, July 22, brought together dog owners in Knox and surrounding areas to vaccinate and register their dogs, as well as participate in activities held by the town.

KNOX — A Dog Day Celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, rain or shine, at the Knox Town Park, behind the town hall, on the Berne-Altamont Road.

A Westerlo woman has been charged by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office with animal cruelty. The 64-year-old woman reportedly had over 100 animals living on her property in what police described as “deplorable conditions.”

VOORHEESVILLE — Cornell Cooperative Extension is offering a seven-week basic obedience class for owners and their dogs, with the opportunity for the dogs to be certified as canine good citizens by an American Kennel Club evaluator at the end of the course.

NEW SCOTLAND — Kids who are 8 and older may join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Albany County for a six-week dog-obedience class designed for youth participants.

With or without experience, kids can sign up to help their family pets become better behaved and learn basic obedience exercises.

Most dogs in Knox are not licensed, according to the town’s dog-control officer.

Amber Pitch, Adirondack 46er, Ariel, dogs

Saturday, Aug. 20, will be a red-letter day for a young woman named Amber and a 11-year old mixed-breed dog named Ariel. A triumphant day really.

Dogs are training to aid the New York Task Force 2 of the Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

Keough spent six weeks training with the dog, going from basic obedience, to tracking, and setting up obstacles with explosives.
