ALBANY COUNTY — Dennis Grant, who had five previous burglary-related convictions, pleaded guilty to another one on Friday. He had tried to break out of jail in 2009 after an earlier burglary arrest.

EAST BERNE — A daytime burglary at a home in East Berne may have been due to its seclusion.

BERNE — Three students were arrested for allegedly breaking into Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s secondary school early Saturday morning, costing the district several thousand dollars in damage and stolen items, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

A Delmar man was sentenced on Jan. 3 to four years in state prison as a second felony offender; the prison time will be followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Frank Markus, 50, of 489 Orchard St., was sentenced by Judge Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Court.

Although the Albany County Drug Court has helped over 500 addicted criminals turn their  lives around, Burglar Curtis Brisson is not one of them.

“I told him, ‘Leave the store now,’ and I repeated that twice,” said Steven Irwin who witnessed a burglary in his store.. “As soon as he heard my voice he ran.”
