The town tax rate is set to decrease for the second year in a row while the spending plan raises salaries and wages for employees and officials.

GUILDERLAND — Supervisor Kenneth Runion says the proposed $33 million budget for 2015 will not raise the town tax rate for residents — it will remain at 25 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation.

The budget will also remain under the state-set tax-levy cap by $224,000.

KNOX — With a generous boost from its savings, the town’s proposed $2.2 million budget carries over many of the same appropriations as last year while remaining under the state limit on tax-levy increases.

ALBANY COUNTY — With the same overall tax levy as last year, the $597 million budget proposed by county Executive Daniel McCoy avoids the controversial tax increases and nursing home debates of previous years.

A split vote on the town board left hanging a bid offer for fixing a set of buildings long in need of repair. Now, the board will seek the services of an engineering firm in order to assess the cost of replacement.

VOORHEESVILLE — Shortly after 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, a small crowd heard the news that every proposition up for vote had passed.

The group, mostly made up of school board members, clapped and nodded as each proposal was read along with the voting numbers.

Voters gave another three years to Vasilios Lefkaditis — who has driven much of the board's discussions about the role of a school board — and ousted a member that voted in the majority for split votes.

For the first time in eight years, there is a race for trustee as the public library, in the wake of a resounding defeat to expand, plans to map its future.

VOORHEESVILLE — The 2014-15 Voorheesville School District budget was approved by the board of education at a meeting on Monday, April 21. The entire board voted in favor of the budget, which is set at $22,713,608.

For two hours, school board members wrestled with ways to heed calls to restore cut staff for valued programs but ultimately followed the counsel of administrators not to further tap reserve funds.
