GUILDERLAND — A Guilderland property owner says he will soon be forced to sell the Western Turnpike land he had rented to Victoria Acres Equine Facility for six years, so that he can concentrate on getting medical treatment.
A suit contends The Pet Zone sold dozens, if not hundreds, of puppies to consumers without first having them examined by a veterinarian and certified as fit for sale as the law requires.
Two women who were accused of abusing their animals this summer have had their cases resolved. A Berne resident who had been arrested for eight counts of abuse pleaded to one count. A dog breeder from Westerlo, who been charged with three counts of animal abuse, had her charges adjourned in contemplation of dismissal. The lawyer who represented both women said they never intended to harm animals.

GUILDERLAND — Guilderhaven is having a fundraiser on Saturday, July 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post on Mill Street in Altamont with a bake sale, barbecue at 11:30 a.m., fried dough, and raffle baskets.
A Westerlo woman has been charged by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office with animal cruelty. The 64-year-old woman reportedly had over 100 animals living on her property in what police described as “deplorable conditions.”
A woman charged with neglecting over 50 animals on her rescue farm in Berne pleaded not guilty to eight charges of failure to provide sustenance on Tuesday night.
After a Berne woman was arrested on charges of neglecting her farm animals, the animals were brought to Camp Pinnacle in New Scotland, where one of the caretakers had been arrested on similar charges four years ago.
In Berne, over 50 animals were taken from an animal rescue operation after owner Linda Mellin, 45, of Berne, was charged Wednesday with animal cruelty charges.
