Stewart’s Shops, which had inspired controversy in two neighboring villages, is now doing an upgrade in its Altamont store, having been turned down on an expansion plan there.

Mindful of the village’s Victorian history, Altamont’s mayor and trustees opposed an application for a large solar array on its periphery. A developer of the array calls the community’s response selfish, not looking toward America’s future.

The new owner of the Old Stone Inn — built in 1773 — doesn’t want a nine-acre solar farm in his front yard. But Guilderland okayed these farms for rural areas as well as industrial areas just a few months ago.

“Bells for Burls” is a campaign to bring a carillon to St. John’s Church in Altamont, honoring Mark “Burls” Burlingame who listened to the music as he lay dying.

There are no idle hands as the new owners of The Spinning Room meet to discuss business.

Stewart’s has bought the house next to its Altamont store. A year ago, the village board declined to change the zoning of that parcel from residential to commercial, nixing plans Stewart’s had for expansion.

ALTAMONT — John and Kristin Smith celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 3, 2016.  On Aug. 27, they had a wonderful celebration with family and friends at Northway Bible Chapel, including many friends from Bellevue Gospel Chapel.

Last Sunday, August 28, the hilltown triple crown finished up on the streets of Altamont in Bozenkill Park.

ALTAMONT — Christine Marshall will be honored on June 28 at 6 p.m. when the parkland at the foot of Maple Avenue Extension is named for her. The triangular green space is planted with exotic grasses.

Marshall, who had served as a trustee on the village board since 2007, died on April 16.
