Altamont fairgrounds

This past weekend, July 22, Altamont had some unique visitors at the Altamont fairgrounds in the form of dinosaurs for the Dinosaurs Come to Life event.

The symbolic “watchfire,” or very large ceremonial bonfire, is meant to honor all of those lost in United States military conflicts.

Director Ginger Miller said the annual Soap Box Derby race, in Albany, generates between 40 to 50 competitors.

Both brawn and color at the Capital District Scottish Games displayed the cultural pride of Scotland, as well as its neighbor, Ireland. The Helderberg escarpment that served as their backdrop occupies a similar place in this region as the Scottish Highlands across the ocean.

Long Time Courting, a Boston-based neo-traditional band comprised of all female players, will bring its high-energy show to the Old Songs Festival in Altamont this weekend.

Freedompalooza, a country music concert on Aug. 24, will raise funds for the Freedom Coalition’s voter education and registration drive for the 2014 election.
