Katlic of Glenville wins Altamont 5K race; Blood breaks record time
ALTAMONT — The second annual Hilltown Triple Crown race series came to a close last Saturday with the 17th annual Altamont 5K.
“The rain disappeared,” said Phil Carducci, the race director.
The Altamont 5K was down 100 participants from last year, Carducci said, but there were four other races in the Capital Region on Saturday. Still, with 220 participants, the Altamont 5K had a larger field than any other race of the day.
Peter Katlic, of Glenville, won the Altamont 5K with a time of 17:20, twelve seconds ahead of Nicole Blood, who set a new women’s record of 17:32. The previous record of 17:46 goes back to 1999, and was held by Dana Ostrander.
Rob Jonas, who plays guitar on the Altamont 5K course, saw Katlic pass Blood with about one-quarter of a mile left in the race, Carducci said.
Blood, 26, graduated from Saratoga High School and the University of Oregon. She won cross-country state titles in her ninth-grade, sophomore, and junior seasons with Saratoga, and set records at Oregon. Blood lived in California for a while before moving to Altamont.
“She’s a professional runner,” said Carducci.
Now that the Hilltown Triple Crown has concluded, the points from all three races — Fox Creek 5K in Berne, Pre-Fall Classic 5K in Voorheesville, and the Altamont 5K — have been tallied. Here are the winners of each age group:
