Guilderland Pop Warner football hosting skills competition

Young pro football fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their punting, passing, and placekicking skills when Guilderland Pop Warner football hosts an NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition on Thursday, Aug. 22. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Nott Road Athletic Fields.

The Punt, Pass & Kick contest is a skills competition for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15, competing separately against their peers in five separate age divisions (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15). A number of NFL players have competed in NFL Punt, Pass & Kick, including top former NFL quarterbacks Dan Marino and Brett Farve.

The competition is free and open for all youth in the capital district to participate, no matter their skill level.  Scores are based on distance and accuracy, with winners determined by the highest cumulative score.

“We want youth of all ages from around the capital district to be exposed to the lessons and life skills involved with the game of football,” says Guilderland Pop Warner president, Keith Zobel.

Participant’s age is determined as of Dec. 31, 2013. All participants must register online at www.nflppk.com or on-site the night of the event. A birth certificate is required to validate the age of each division winner.

With more than three million boys and girls from around the country taking part in the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition every year, it is one of the world's largest youth sports participation programs.

All participants are required to wear gym/tennis shoes; no cleats are allowed.
