Frank J. Williams Jr.

ALTAMONT — A Guilderland Republican who served as town attorney for two dozen years, Frank J. Williams Jr. died on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at St. Peter's Community Hospice Inn. He was 94.

He was born in Albany, on Jan. 12, 1922, the son of the late Frank J. Williams, M.D. and Mary Louise Wood Williams. He was raised in Albany and Altamont. He graduated from Albany Academy, Princeton University, and Albany Law School.

Mr. Williams served in the United States Army Air Force ground support in Italy, France, and Germany during World War II.

He was a practicing attorney in the Capital District, Lake George, and the Adirondacks for more than 63 years. He was one of the founding members of the law firm of Williams, DuBrin and Burkich. He was a member of the Albany County, New York State, and American bar associations.

He served as Guilderland town attorney for 24 years and as Indian Lake town attorney for 10 years. Mr. Williams ran for the New York State Senate from Albany County in 1958. He served as chairman of the Guilderland Republican Committee in 1964 and for several years as a member of the committee.

He was a member and president of the Altamont Kiwanis Club in the 1950s; former president of the Princeton Alumni Association of Northern New York; long-time squash-playing member and former president of the Fort Orange Club; former member and regatta participant of the Lake George Club, Diamond Point, New York; golfer and former member of the old Albany Country Club at McKownville, now the University at Albany campus; and frequent vacationer with the family at Nantucket, Massachusetts and Lake George.

Frank J. Williams Jr. is survived by his son, Frank J. Williams III, of Schoharie; his daughter, Carrie Louise Williams, of Bishop, California; his son, Frederick Jesse Williams, and his wife, Emily Willauer Williams, of East Norwalk, Connecticut and Nantucket, Massachusetts; granddaughters, Claire Grace Williams and Margot Rebecca Williams of Schoharie; and many nieces and nephews.

His wife of 61 years, Marjorie Susan White Williams, died before him as did his sister, Louise Williams Stevens, formerly of Stockbridge and Great Barrington, Massachusetts.

A funeral service was held on Aug. 24 at the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont with interment at the Albany Rural Cemetery. Mourners may leave online condolences may at fredendallfuneralhome.com.
