Carol Farrow Dow

Carol Farrow Dow, a devoted mother who raised her family while working as a school secretary, kept on running into her sixties, garnering a prize in the famed Freihofer’s Run.

Ms. Dow of Windham, Maine, formerly of West Berne, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016. She was 83.

Ms. Dow was born on Oct. 26, 1932, in Waterville, Maine, the only daughter of Welton and Verna Farrow. She graduated from Waterville High School and continued her education at the University of Maine at Orono where she graduated with an associate’s degree. During her school years, she was active on cheerleading squads and enjoyed playing the clarinet.

She raised her family in West Berne where she was the secretary at Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School and was also the president of the Parent-Teacher Association.

Ms. Dow enjoyed painting, gardening, living a healthy lifestyle, and running (even until her late 60s), her family wrote in a tribute; as an accomplished runner, she was a second-place winner in the 5K Freihofer’s Run for Women in Albany.

“Carol will be remembered as a dedicated mother,” the tribute said, “and will be greatly missed by her family.”
