Shear arraigned for bank robbery

SLINGERLANDS — Victor Shear, of Canajoharie, was arraigned on Sept. 9 on charges that he robbed the TrustCo Bank on New Scotland Road in Slingerlands.

The indictment alleges that, on Aug. 21, he entered the bank, demanding money while brandishing a gun and then, after taking the money, fled.

Shear, 45, was arraigned before Judge Peter A. Lynch in Albany County Court on one count of first-degree robbery, a felony.

Shear was captured in South Carolina and waived extradition back to New York State, according to a press release from the Albany County District Attorney’s Office; he pleaded not guilty and was remanded to Albany County’s jail without bail.

Assistant District Attorney Steven Sharp of the Legal Affairs Bureau is handling the prosecution of this case.
