ALTAMONT TRIMMED.
At the fair grounds last Saturday the Altamont baseball team of the Susquehanna league met defeat at the hands of Delmar. The score was 8 to 4. Another cold, unpleasant day greeted the players, resulting in slow fielding and an uninteresting game. The attendance was very small. The visitors pounded Gill, the local twirler, for 13 hits and won the game with ease … Had Altamont been favored with good pitching the game might have resulted differently. Saturday’s game showed conclusively that our big weakness is in the pitcher’s box, and, until that weakness is remedied, Altamont cannot expect to win.

STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH URGES PASTEURIZATION TO PREVENT DISEASE.
Saratoga Springs — One of the most important problems being taken up at the annual conference of New York state health officers here this week, is the relation of milk to public health …
The State Department of Health is desirous of securing pasteurization of milk supplies in all cities in New York state, and is inaugurating a wide educational campaign to convince the public at large of the necessity of pasteurization if the absence of milk-borne disease is to be assured. Commissioner Hermann M. Biggs believes that a great impetus will be given the work, with all of the health officers of the state going back to their respective communities from the conference with the latest information in regard to pasteurization and its effect in preventing diseases. The educational campaign will then be carried to the general public throughout the state.
A Retrospect in History. Ten Years Ago. (June 8, 1906.)
During the heavy shower Wednesday afternoon, lightning struck the steeple of the Lutheran church, starting near the top and following down to the top of the belfry, knocking off a portion of the cornice and the slate on one side. The steeple was struck a few years ago in the same place and similarly damaged.
