GUILDERLAND — On June 5, André McCauley, 30, of Guilderland, was sentenced to 12 years in state prison for attempted assault.

Judge Roger D. McDonough in Albany County Court sentenced him also to five years of post-release supervision.

In April, McCauley had been found guilty after a jury trial of one count of first-degree attempted assault, a violent felony.

McCauley, on June 27, 2014 at about 3 p.m., intentionally shot a 26-year-old man he knew, according to a release from the Albany County District Attorney’s Office; the shooting took place in the area of 187 Bradford Street in Albany.

Members of the Albany Police Department arrived at the scene and located a victim of a grazed gunshot wound, the release said; the victim was treated and survived the encounter.

Assistant District Attorney Steven Sharp of the Street Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
