GUILDERLAND — Sean P. McCutcheon, a 19-year town employee with a great sense of humor, died on Friday, May 22, 2015. He was 54.

Mr. McCutcheon was born in Schenectady to Anne Johnson McCutcheon and the late John P. McCutcheon.

He met his wife, Cathy Yandell McCutcheon, when the two were in grade school at St. John the Evangelist.

“We were childhood sweethearts,” said Mrs. McCutcheon.

Mr. McCutcheon served in the United States Air Force from 1981 to 1984, and Mrs. McCutcheon said they were married two weeks after he was honorably discharged; they would have celebrated 30 years of marriage this summer.

Mr. McCutcheon was a laborer for the Town of Guilderland Highway Department for nearly two decades and his wife said “he loved the people he worked with; they were like family to him.”

He never complained about going to work, she said.

She described him as a “wonderful father” to their two children.

He was involved in softball with his daughter, and especially enjoyed practicing pitching with her; he was involved in Cub Scouts with his son.

“He loved playing with the kids,” said Mrs. McCutcheon. “He was just a big kid at heart.”

Mr. McCutcheon’s biggest hobby was cycling and he either biked or did another form of exercise every single day.

He was a communicant at St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady.

“He was just a very caring man,” said Mrs. McCutcheon. “He always wanted to help other people.
