Volunteer to help your neighbors on May 16
To the Editor:
The Voorheesville/New Scotland Volunteer Day will be held on Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to noon. The annual springtime event promotes neighbors helping neighbors, matching volunteers with projects that assist our senior-citizen community members and others in need in the town of New Scotland with yard work and other light projects.
Volunteers also assist with sprucing up the local environment through park and road clean-ups. With the support of the town of New Scotland, the event is organized by a dedicated group of volunteers and co-sponsored by the New Scotland Kiwanis Club and Voorheesville High School Key Club.
Town of New Scotland seniors and others in need in the community due to disability or illness are encouraged to contact Town of New Scotland Senior Outreach Liaison Deborah Engel at 518-439-9038 by May 1 to be considered for volunteer assignments for yardwork or small projects.
We always need volunteers! Community members, families, groups, and businesses can sign up via email at or send us a message through the New Scotland Kiwanis Facebook page. Voorheesville high school students can sign up though the Key Club’s Google sign-up.
Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult volunteer, and volunteers must be able to provide their own transportation to project sites. We ask that volunteers register by May 9. Walk-in volunteers are also welcome.
Volunteers will meet, rain or shine, at the New Scotland Town Hall on May 16 at 8:30 a.m. to receive instructions, supplies, and to fuel up (usually with coffee, donuts, and fruit) before heading out for the morning.
A volunteer-appreciation barbecue will be held beginning at noon outside the town hall. Updates regarding the event will be posted on the New Scotland Kiwanis Facebook page and communicated to registered volunteers.
We look forward to providing this opportunity for our caring community to help their neighbors in need.
