Neighborliness could counter chaos

To the Editor:

One response to all the chaos mentioned in the editorial “What is chaos and whom does it serve?” [The Altamont Enterprise, March 19, 2026] could be neighborliness.

Wendell Berry wrote:

“... neighbors ask themselves what they can do or provide for one another, and they find answers that they and their place can afford.”

We must directly address the chaos and its perpetrators. But meanwhile, people in our community — our neighbors — are suffering.

How can we help them now? And how can we create a place that can sustain that help no matter what happens in the future?
