Duane Theodore “Ted” Crommie, of Schenectady, who worked in the auto electric industry, was a wonderful storyteller, devoted to his family.

He died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025. He was 88.

Born on Aug. 12, 1937, in Cobleskill, he was the son of Mildred (née Rickard) and Charles Crommie.

He graduated from Cobleskill High School and later attended the State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill.

“On April 27, 1958,” his family wrote in a tribute, “he married his high school sweetheart, Marion Barber, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 68 years.

“Ted enjoyed a long career in the auto electrical industry, working for Orr’s, Gage’s, and XL, where he was known for his strong work ethic, patience, and reliability. Outside of work, Ted enjoyed woodworking, especially making wooden toys and building and racing slot cars.

“In his earlier years, he loved camping trips with his family and spending time bowling, creating memories his family still cherishes.

“A wonderful storyteller, Ted had a gift for turning everyday moments into stories filled with warmth and humor. He was a steady, loving presence who made others feel welcome and at ease, always offering a smile and a kind word. His devotion to his family and the quiet way he showed his love will be remembered long after his stories are told.”
