Never be ashamed to ask for help

Molly likes hanging out with Steve Silvano’s lawn ornament. Silvano printed these cards as a thank-you for people contributing to Molly’s surgery. She had a tumor removed at a cost of $5,500, he said. “I sold my bass boat for $3,500; it’s nothing compared to her,” he said. Silvano raised the rest by selling raffle tickets.

To the Editor:

Well, folks, my faith in humanity has been restored.

Recently, my 9-year-old border collie, Molly, needed some very extensive and expensive surgery. It was way above my fixed-income pay grade and I knew I needed help.

A friend of mine suggested a raffle so I made my way to Gateway Corner Print Shop and talked to Daniel, the manager. Within two days, I had raffle tickets in hand. The craftsmanship was second to none.

Within two weeks, because of family and friends and neighbors, all 200 tickets were sold, hitting our goal. The surgery was on.

On Nov. 18, Molly had successful surgery. She spent one night in the hospital and the rest is history. She is back, acting like a 3-year-old.

Because of the generosity of all the people and businesses in the Voorheesville area, she has a new, happier life.

A heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Davida Rausch of Upstate Veterinary Hospital who did the fantastic surgery; the employees of the Mill Hill Stewart’s Shop; Greg’s Towing and Repairs; European Autoworks; Taylor Fine Woodworking; and the employees of Voorheesville NAPA.

Also: The Northern Barrell; Pretty Alright Breakfast Club; Roberts Home Builders; J.J. Cramer Construction; Voorheesville fireman and fire police; Voorheesville Rod and Gun Club; Poor Farmers of America, Voorheesville Lodge; and all the individuals that gave generously

Even my brother-in-law, who is tighter than a double-clinch knot, gave generously!

I will leave you with this: Never be ashamed to ask for help. The response will overwhelm you and, if you can afford pet insurance in your budget, get it — you never know.

A heartfelt thank-you to all who helped solve Molly’s plight.
