Print news directly confronts the reader with facts
To the Editor:
Millions of us participated in the No Kings rallies across the country to demonstrate our belief in democracy. Essential to democracy is a free and independent press.
Print news directly confronts the reader with facts, which then the reader may research and accept or dismiss. Print news makes no attempt to distract the reader from the news.
There are no smiling co-hosts or music. There are presented facts and the reader, who has the right to question and validate.
In contrast, TV news really attempts to entertain. Entertainment distracts us from reality and lulls us into believing that everything is just fine.
There is a link between how we get the news versus how we determine what is going on in our country right now. When we look at TV network news, attitude hits us first — not fact. That is why print news and freedom of the press urgently need our support today.
