BERNE — Barbara A. Cross of Berne, who had a long marriage, a long school career, and lifelong friendships, died on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025, in Albany Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was 88.

The daughter of the late Charles and Lenore Irish Filkins, she was raised and grew up with Millard “Pete” and Edna Furman. She was the beloved wife of Gerald Cross with whom she shared 67 years of marriage.

“Barbara enjoyed a long career in the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School District,” her family wrote in a tribute. “She enjoyed her long membership with the Berne Fire Company Ladies’ Auxiliary where she formed lifelong friendships.

“Barb will be remembered for her infectious smile, her amazing laugh, and let’s not forget her delicious pies and fudge.”

In addition to her husband Gerald Cross, she is survived by her children, Wade (Cheryl) Cross of Santa Clarita, California and Geri Lynn (Anthony) Teta of Glens Falls; by her son-in-law, Jeffrey Myers of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; by her grandchildren, Kevin, Laura, Emily, and Marlie Cross, Merideth Myers, Nicholas and Olivia Teta; and by her great grandchildren, Donovan, Leo, Alice and Lydia.

She was the beloved sister of Edward, David, and Micheal Filkins and is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

Her parents died before her, as did her daughter, Kelly Myers, and her siblings, Doris Keeler and Evelyn Corsi.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 9:30 a.m. in the First Reformed Church of Berne at 1664 Helderberg Trail in Berne. Interment will immediately follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Berne. Family and friends are invited to visit with her family in the church in the evening on Friday, Aug. 22, from 4 until 7 p.m.
