State Police: Errant food-delivery driver threatened with hatchet
NEW SCOTLAND — An altercation with a food-delivery driver, police say, led to a New Scotland man being arrested on several charges.
On June 29, State Police charged Paul D. Byron, 43, with first-degree attempted assault, second-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree menacing.
A release from the State Police says events unfolded this way: On the morning of June 28, a food-delivery driver arrived at Bryon’s New Scotland home.
“Byron reportedly exited the home armed with a hatchet and confronted the food delivery driver who was still in their vehicle, attempting to explain why they were at the location,” the release said. “After being threatened by Byron while he held the weapon the victim realized they were at the wrong residence and started to drive away at which point Byron used the hatchet to strike the victim’s vehicle multiple times causing damage.”
The uninjured driver called police from a safe location.
Byron was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the New Scotland Town Court on July 3, and released.
