WESTERLO — Henry H. Lasher Jr., a deputy sheriff, was a long-time volunteer for both the Westerlo fire company and rescue squad.

He died peacefully in the comfort of his home on Friday, June 13, 2025. He was 81.

Born in Saugerties on Jan. 23, 1944, a son of the late Henry H. and Elizabeth Rosenkrance Lasher, he was a graduate of Berne-Knox High School.

“Henry was employed for 30 years as a deputy sheriff by the Albany County Sheriff’s Department, retiring in 2000,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He was a resident of Westerlo since 1958, and was a 61-year active member of the Westerlo Volunteer Fire Company.

“Henry was a member of the Westerlo Rescue Squad for 25 years, and was a member of Fire Police of Albany County, Hilltown Seniors, and the former Helderberg Hilltoppers Camping Club.”

Henry H. Lasher is survived by his wife, Linda Meyn Lasher; by his sons, Henry “Butch” Lasher III, and Robert Lasher; and by his sister- and brother-in-law, Barbara and Mark Denton.

His brother, Jacob Lasher, died before him.

Calling hours will be Thursday, June 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home at 4898 State Route 81 in Greenville. Officers and members of the Westerlo Volunteer Fire Company, Fire Police, and Auxiliary are requested to meet at 6:15 p.m. at the funeral home.

The funeral will be Friday, June 20, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial with honors in Westerlo Rural Cemetery.
