Guilderland man charged with attempted murder

GUILDERLAND — A stabbing on Sunday led Guilderland Police to charge a neighbor of the victim with attempted murder on Tuesday.

At 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, April 20, police and Emergency Medical Services responded to a call at 4 Winding Brook Drive where a 44-year-old man had a laceration on his left side, according to a release from Guilderland Police. He was taken to Albany Medical Center.

Police learned that, during a fight at 3 Winding Brook Drive, Douglas R. Martak, 54, had slashed the victim, resulting in “serious injuries to his back and abdomen,” the release said.

Martak was charged on April 22 with second-degree attemptedd murder, first- and second-degree assault, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He was arraigned by Judge Margaret C. Tabak in Guilderland Town Court and was remanded to Albany County’s jail.
