Bernice E. Lee

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernice E. Lee, affectionately known as Bernie, who left us peacefully on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at the Delmar Center, surrounded by her loving family,” her family wrote in a tribute.

“She was 83 years old and resided in Westerlo,” her family wrote. “Born in Schenectady, Bernice was the beloved daughter of the late Loren and Nellie (née Case) Winn. Bernice attended Greenville Central High School before embarking on a fulfilling journey in the workforce, where her warm personality and ability to make friends made every workplace feel like home.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life — baking and gardening were her true passions, filling her days with creativity and nurturing. She cherished camping trips, lively country music, and the escape of a good book, creating countless cherished memories with her family.

“A devoted mother to her four children, Bernice often expressed how their births transformed her life for the better. Her unwavering love and support were the foundation upon which her family thrived.

“She is survived by her daughters, Gail Lee and Penny (Randy) Britton; and her son, Harold (Darlene) Lee Jr; her grandchildren, Harold (Erica) Lee III, Roxanne (Sean) Moroney, Meghan (Ian) McFarland, Alec (Kendall) Hulbert; and her great-grandchildren, Liam, Miles, Chloe and Nolan who were her pride and joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Bernice is also survived by her sister Lorrine Helmedach.

“Bernice was predeceased by her soulmate, Jerry Heath; sister, Janet Bates; brother-in-law, Chet Bates; brother, Roger Winn; daughter, MaryAnn Hulbert; grandson, Ryan Britton, and other beloved family members, including Brenda Heath, and Herbert (Herbie) Helmedach. Their absence leaves a profound void in the family’s hearts, but the love and cherished memories they shared will forever resonate in their lives.

“Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during calling hours at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, located at 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a funeral service at 6:30 p.m., led by Pastor Will Balta. Bernice will be laid to rest in the Medusa Cemetery family plot on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 2:30 p.m.

“As we celebrate the beautiful life of Bernice E. (née Winn) Lee, we invite all who knew her to share their condolences and memories at ajcunninghamfh.com.

“She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.”
