New fire training tower is essential

To the Editor:

I was so glad to celebrate the opening Tuesday of a badly-needed fire training tower in Guilderland near the Guilderland industrial park.

This was essential, especially considering the burdensome regulations frequently placed on fire districts, particularly involving training.

Volunteer firefighters give so much of themselves and the collaboration by state, county, and town officials was our way to pitch in.

I was a co-sponsor of a $500,000 county grant to help pay for construction. Though political leaders were given plaques at the ribbon-cutting, the real tip of the hat goes to the volunteer firefighters.

Thank you!

Mark Grimm
