Claudia G. Anderson

Claudia G. Anderson, beloved wife of Lewis Buckman, died after a brief illness on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023. She was 88.
She was born at the Flower Hospital in Manhattan, the first child of the late Margaret Kolman Gabel and August Gabel. She graduated from Bronx High School of Science, received her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and her master’s degree in education from The College of Saint Rose.

“Claudia had a long, successful career as an Earth science teacher, retiring in 1990 from Cairo-Durham High School,” her family wrote in a tribute. “She was a talented artist and many people treasure her gifts of art.

“From 1960 until his death in 1968, Claudia was married to Haven L. Anderson. She had two daughters, Amy Anderson-Reid (Tom) and Sara E. Anderson. She left behind a grandson, Ian A. Reid.

“In 2003 Claudia met her love, Lew Buckman, at the Quaker Meeting House in Albany. After their marriage on May 22, 2004, they resided in East Berne. They cherished every day with each other.

“In addition to art, Claudia loved books, handwritten letters, plants and animals, birdwatching,  and especially cats. She leaves behind Pippa, the last of many furfriends.”

A small, private gathering was held in her memory shortly after her death.
