VOORHEESVILLE — On Thursday, November 23, 2023, Joseph F. Donato died after a long battle with cancer at his home, with his family by his side. He was 62.

Born in Albany on Jan. 9, 1961, he was the son of the late Anthony D. Donato and Catherine M. (née Fox) Donato. He graduated from Voorheesville’s high school in 1980 and worked in the construction industry most of his life.

“He loved to fish, garden, watch football, and baseball (the 49ers and Baltimore Orioles),” his family wrote in a tribute. “Joe loved grilling and most importantly he loved spending time with family and friends. He played golf and loved bowling with his grandsons.

“Joe loved his seafood, sushi, and especially lobster. He was well known for his funny and unannounced jokes and comments that always gave everyone a good laugh. He always had a way with words. Joe loved his wife, Rose, unconditionally.”

Joseph F. Donato is survived by his wife, Rose Wilkinson Donato; son, Michael Donato; daughter, Robin Donato; grandsons, Dylan and Dominick Donato; sister-in-law, Deborah J. Lee, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

His siblings, Anthony J. Donato, Dale F. Donato, and Ann (née Donato) Neander, died before him, as did his nephew, Arthur Neander Jr., and great-niece, Emily Ann Neander. 

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Cannon Funeral Home at 2020 Central Ave. in Colonie on Friday, Dec. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. with a celebration of his life at 6 p.m.
