VOORHEESVILLE — Thomas G. Martin, a loving family man who worked as a state trooper, died peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023. He was 86.
The son of the late John and Sarah Martin, he was born on July 26, 1937 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. 

He served in the United States Army before joining the New York State Troopers in 1962. He had a 27-year career before retiring from Troop G as a senior investigator in Guilderland.

“Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing tennis and fishing on Lake George and Sylvia Lake,” his family wrote in a tribute. “Tom and Edie recently celebrated 60 years of their loving and happy marriage.

“Tom (Pop) will be remembered as a loving family man and for his sense of humor and great storytelling. He never missed a chance to root against the New York Yankees, having never recovered from the Brooklyn Dodgers leaving New York.”

Thomas G. Martin is survived by his wife, Edie; his brother, John B. Martin; his daughter, Patty (Craig) Ratchford; his sons, John (Sara) Martin, Thomas (Kristin Connelly) Martin; and his grandchildren, Ryan, Shannon, Sean, and Kaitlyn Ratchford and Molly and Timothy Martin.

His infant daughter, Kathleen Ann, died before him, as did his sister Mary Clark; his brother Donald Martin; his sister Patsy McDougall; and his grandson Ryan Connelly.

Private funeral Services will be held by the family.
