FEURA BUSH — Donald R. Davies of Feura Bush “entered eternal rest on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with cancer,” his family wrote in a tribute. He was 76.

At his bedside at the time of his passing were his wife of 53 years, Jo Ann; his son, Brian; and his daughter-in-law, Amber.

He was born on Nov. 5, 1946, in Utica, New York, and lived in Cassville, New York until he moved to the Capital District in 1969. His parents, D. Reginald and Marjorie R. Davies, died before him, as did his beloved grandmother, Inez Manning.

He graduated with a degree in accounting in 1968 from Rider College in Trenton, New Jersey.

“He then moved to the Capital District, living for the past 37 years in the countryside of Feura Bush, surrounded by a very large lawn he loved to mow,” his family wrote.

He retired in 2002 as a financial systems analyst for the New York State Department of Social Services.

“A lifelong fan of stock car racing, for more than 50 years Don and his wife penned a weekly column for a national trade publication, covering racing events from Canada to Florida,” the tribute said. “He was happiest roaming the pits of race tracks, talking to everyone, as he gathered information for the next column.

“He and his wife were honored to be Hall of Fame members of the New York State Stock Car Association and recipients of the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame Media Excellence Award in 2018.”
