BERNE

— Fire destroyed James Bailey’s house and contents on last Saturday night. Mrs. Bailey and her niece were in the house when it broke out and only able to escape with what they had on. Help soon arrived and succeeded in saving the other buildings. Origin of fire is unknown. Sorry to say that they had only a small amount of insurance. James Bailey is planning to rebuild. They are staying at the home of Charles Ball at present.

— Mr. and Mrs. James Bailey wish to thank all who kindly assisted them the night of the fire and also for the many kind deeds done since.

DEATH OF MARY E.
PANGBURN OF ALTAMONT

The death of Mary Elizabeth Pangburn, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Millard J. Pangburn of Altamont, occurred at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alberon Carr, at Sloansville, Wednesday morning, July 25th, at 10:30 o’clock.

The funeral service was held at the home of her parents to-day. Rev. Roscoe M. Giles, jr., pastor of the Reformed church, officiated, assisted by Rev. A. A. Frederick, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran church. Burial took place at Fairview cemetery. Besides her parents, she leaves two sisters, Elsie and Mildred, and a little brother, Millard C. Pangburn.

On Tuesday of last week Mary went to visit her grandparents at Sloansville, and on Friday she was taken seriously ill. Dr. A. I. Cullen was called and pronounced it a case of appendicitis. On account of a weakness of the heart, an operation was considered unwise. Dr. Henry L. K. Shaw was called in consultation, but all medical aid and loving care of relatives was of no avail, and she passed away Wednesday morning. Mary was 9 years and 25 days old, having celebrated her birthday on July 1st.
