Man dies in Route 20 crash

GUILDERLAND — A 24-year-old man from Mississippi was killed in a Western Turnpike car crash on Tuesday night.

A release from the Guilderland Police Department says events unfolded this way:

At about 11 p.m. on April 18, Guilderland officers responded to a two-car crash on Route 20 just west of Fuller Station Road. Vernon D. Baggett of Pascagoula, Mississippi was alone in his car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Taminson Boone, 22, of Schenectady was driving the other car with an 11-year-old passenger in the front seat. Both were treated on scene by Guilderland Emergency Medical Services for apparent minor injuries, and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for further evaluation.

The cause for the crash is still being investigated, the Wednesday afternoon release said, and anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Todd Roberts at 518-356-1501.

Besides the Guilderland Police and EMS, the Albany County Crash Investigation team was at the scene as were volunteers from the Guilderland, Fort Hunter, and Guilderland Center fire departments.
