To the Editor:
I have lived in Berne my entire life. I have seen generations of residents who love the land and nurtured it like it was a family member.

Most town roads are little communities within the town. On our road, we have a Christmas coffee get-together with all our neighbors. Residents enjoy each other’s company and help each other just like family.

The Berne Town Board’s idea and goal to sell as many as 30,000 permits to out-of-town ATVs to ride our quiet country roads makes no sense.

Why would anyone want thousands of out-of-towners driving their ATVs on our roads, with no ATV trails for them to ride on and instead destroying our farm fields, beautiful woodland hiking and snowmobile trails, terrorizing our horses, farm animals, and children

I am opposed to this law because it raises significant safety concerns, does not benefit Berne residents, only benefits nonresidents and will allow out-of-towners to destroy our land and peaceful way of life.  

Let’s not turn our beautiful Hilltown community into an ATV playground for flatlanders at the expense of Berne residents.
