SCHENECTADY — Robert S. Drake Sr., fondly known as Bob, was a long-time Guilderland school leader.

He died peacefully at home on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, at the age of 90.

“Bob was a teacher and administrator for the Guilderland Central School District from 1956 to 1987,” his family wrote in a tribute. “Bob served as principal at St. Catherine’s R&E May School from 1988 to 1990.

“He was also co-owner of the B&C Nuisance Wildlife Control Agency with Howard ‘Cappy’ Schworm. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, camping, and traveling.

“He was a member of the National Trappers Association, Fur Takers of America, New York State Trappers Association, National Rifle Association, and the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association.”

He is survived by his seven children, Robert Jr. (Dawn), John (Maria), Rebecca (Brett), David (Katherine), Daniel, Taylor (Megan) and Patricia; by his 11 grandchildren; and by his 10 great-grandchildren.

His parents, Arden and Rebecca Drake, died before him as did his sixth child, Olivia.

A private memorial service will be held for family members in May 2023.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association.
