The Voorheesville American Legion Post 1493 Thanksgiving community dinner this year raised $6,000, which will be distributed to six local organizations.

VOORHEESVILLE — The Voorheesville American Legion Post’s recent Thanksgiving community dinner raised some $6,000 for a number of local organizations.

Wendall Thayer, post commander of the Legion, said the Nov. 24 event fed about 200 individuals in person while another 100 received take-out meals.

Thayer said the six local organizations that received $1,000 each were the New Scotland Community Food Pantry at Saint Matthew’s Church in Voorheesville; the New Scotland Kiwanis food pantry; the Hilltown Christmas Fund; the Onesquethaw food pantry; the Veterans Miracle Center in Albany; and the town of New Scotland senior citizens.

  • The plan will now be folded into the town’s 2018 comprehensive plan and “used as a reference tool in the development, management, and protection of New Scotland’s natural resources, and in making future land use decisions,” the resolution adopting the plan states.

  • “When they got here, the roof was on fire. They knocked it down fast. Nobody was home. So everybody’s safe and sound, just property damage,” Thomas Cascone, Voorheesville’s fire chief, told the media at the scene.
