Marvin R. Sample

EAST BERNE — Marvin R. Sample, an Army veteran and town highway worker, died Monday, July 11, 2022, in his East Berne home. He was 83.

Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Stanley and Lulu Schaffer Sample. He had lived in East Berne for the past 50 years.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1962 to 1964 and worked for more than 25 years at the Town of Berne Highway Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flea markets, garage sales, and collecting military memorabilia.

He was the husband of the late Victoria Sample; father of Tracy Bassler, married to Paul, of East Berne, Wendy Sample of Berne, and Robin Weidman, married to Edward, of Westerlo; grandfather of Kenneth Pappalau, married to Brittany, Matthew Steadman, Tyler Weidman, and Edward Weidman Jr.; great-grandfather of Brayden Steadman; and uncle to several nieces and nephews.

His three sisters and six brothers died before him.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home at 9 Voorheesville Ave. in Voorheesville on Saturday, July 16, from 9 to 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Colonie.
