NEW SCOTLAND — Samuel Adelbert Youmans, of Voorheesville, beloved husband of the late Kathryn Elizabeth (née Sofield) Youmans, died on Monday, May 9, 2022 at home. He was 100 years old.

He was born on July 8, 1921, and was raised on the family dairy and poultry farm, Youmans Farms in New Scotland. He was the son of the late Lester and Ethel (néer Cozine) Youmans, and was a lifelong resident of the town of New Scotland.  

Mr. Youmans graduated from Bethlehem Central High School, and from the State School of Agriculture at Cobleskill where he met his wife, Kathryn. They were married on April 10, 1943.  

After Youmans Farms was sold, Mr. Youmans established his own building-improvement service. He was active in the New Scotland Kiwanis Club, Senior Citizens, and was a charter member of the New Scotland Historical Association. He was recently honored for 84 years of membership in the New Scotland Presbyterian Church, where he served on many boards and committees over the years.

Samuel Adelbert Youmans is survived by his daughter, Donna Clark and her husband, John, of Ledyard, Connecticut; by two sons, David Youmans and his wife, Sharon, of East Greenbush, and Timothy Youmans and his wife, Margene, of Winchester, Virginia; by his daughter-in-law, Mary Youmans, of Sugarland, Texas; and by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

His wife, Kathryn, died before him, as did his son James, and his three brothers, Lester Youmans Jr., Donald Youmans, and James Youmans.  

A service of remembrance will be held June 13 at New Scotland Presbyterian Church at 2010 New Scotland Road in Slingerlands. Calling hours will be held at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. with the memorial service immediately following.

  • Robert L. “Bob” Marx, who served in the Air Force and had a career at General Electric, was a gifted athlete and talented woodworker.

    He died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, at the blessed age of 93.
