KNOX — Adel R. Agnew, who, with her husband, raised six children on their Craven Road dairy farm, died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. She was 94.

Born on May 8, 1920 in Waterbury, Connecticut, she married Alfred W. Agnew in West Point, New York on Nov. 18, 1937.  A decade later, they bought a dairy farm where they lived most of their lives.

“She loved reading romance novels, knitting for her children and grandchildren, and traveling,” her family wrote in a tribute. “She enjoyed traveling to Maine and Connecticut with her son Scott and visiting her son Tom and his wife, Freda, in California.

“At the age of 75, she made her first trip overseas, traveling to Tokyo, Japan to visit her daughter, Linda, and her family. In her later years, she enjoyed visiting Port Henry, New York and spending summer evenings on the porch with Lee and Mike. Her family will miss her dearly, but know she will be at peace, as she is reunited with her late husband.”

She is survived by her children, Alfred Agnew of Lake City, Florida; Thomas Agnew and his wife, Freda, of Palmdale, California; Lee Martin and Mike Hammond of Knox; Linda Wigger and her husband, Richard, of Savannah, Georgia; Christopher Agnew of Sharon Springs, New York; and Scott Agnew of Knox. In addition, she leaves 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Her loving husband of 37 years, Alfred, died before her as did her brother, Amie.
