ALTAMONT — Robert James Magil of Altamont and Englewood, Florida “peacefully passed away to Heaven and Home” on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, after a brief illness, his family wrote in a tribute. He was 76.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1945 in Schenectady to Stanley and Sonia Magilnicki and was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and Siena College.

“He lived a life of integrity, kindness, and love, and had a heart devoted to God, his family, and his country,” his family wrote.

Mr. Magil had a 30-year career with New York State as an information security manager.

“He was admired and respected by his colleagues,” his family wrote. “It was another place where his wisdom and integrity were on full display.

“He enjoyed life and he enjoyed people. A favorite pastime was fly fishing with friends and family in the Adirondack Mountains and along the Gulf Coast of Florida.

“Bob will be deeply missed by his wife of 51 years.”

In addition to his wife, Mary Lou (née Heron), he is survived by his sons, Christopher and Daniel; his daughter-in-law, Cate; and his four grandchildren, Madison Magil, Katelyn Magil, Molly Magil, and Ian Magil, who were the pride and joy of his life.

“His large extended Heron clan, his church family, and his friends and neighbors will all sorely feel his absence,” his family wrote. “Our loss is Heaven’s gain.”

A private funeral service will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to International Accelerated Missions, 114 Rock Road, Berne, NY, 12023.
