ALBANY COUNTY — For the second time in as many weeks, another Albany County resident has died of COVID-19.

Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy made the announcement in a Saturday morning press release. This brings the county’s death toll from the virus to 390.

At the same time, McCoy announced 100 new cases of COVID-19 — the second day in a row with new cases in the triple digits.

Albany County, like New York State and the entire United States, has a high rate of transmission, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Protection.

There are now 467 active cases in the county, up from 452 since Friday. The number of county residents under mandatory quarantine increased to 755 from 738.

There were three new hospitalizations since Friday, and 26 county residents remain hospitalized with the virus. There are now six patients currently in intensive-care units, up from five yesterday.

“Every COVID death is a tragedy, and my thoughts and prayers go out to those who have lost a loved one. They are a reminder that the threat of this virus still exists and we need to get more people vaccinated,” said McCoy in the release. “Please get the shot if you haven’t yet, and if you have, please encourage those that haven’t. We need to get to herd immunity to help prevent more deaths in the future.”

Albany County continues to deliver vaccines to homebound residents, which includes seniors, disabled individuals, people lacking childcare. Anyone who would like to schedule a time for a vaccine appointment should call 518-447-7198.

Residents can also receive free Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., each weekday at the Albany County Department of Health at 175 Green Street in Albany.
